No, because it requires R&R 3.1 which is not yet released.

I've updated to CSS7, FP 5.5 and R&R 3.1 - all installed no bother. Will play with it and see what the updates offer.

As posted in http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=25653 I have had a lot of problems with this series of updates on my T43. (CSS 7, Finger print s/w 5.5 and R&R3.1)

a) Latest is that I find that I cannot use the TSS Type-and-Transfer-Tool for passwords on either Firefox or IE. Anyone got this going? I cannot drag passwords using the red cross-hair to the webpage dialog box.

b) Also I get the following message each time I power up:

------
Your system is in danger of potential data loss when changing your Microsoft Windows password. To learn more about an important update that prevents this data loss, see the following Web site:

http://www.lenovo.com/support/site.wss/ ... MIGR-63271

-------

I have tried all suggested means, bar phoning Microsoft, but unable to get rid of it.

c) Finally, for the moment, I seem to have to swipe my fingerprint in twice. Once with the Windows login, which took me ages to recover, and then when the desk top shows, the fingerprint entry picture comes up again.

Any thoughts?

Doesn't work for me in IE/Firefox either. It works for other applications like notepad though.

2. The dialog box upon login can be deleted using their R&R Admin tool supposively. Instructions are listed on their link. But I don't know how they extract the Active Directory Templates for CSS. Maybe someone can shed light on this?

3. Password manager does NOT work with firefox 1.5.0.4 :( Anyone got it to work on earlier FF? This is despite the documentation/help in password manager expressly saying they supported firefox.

4. You don't need R&R 3.1 to install CSS 7. I have installed it without it.

Can't say I have this issue. Mine shows up for me to enter the password after windows login. This is to launch the password manager. Perhaps you have your password manager authentication set to use fingerprint instead of password?

Suffice to say I'm not too pleased with this newest version.

It's there, under the heading "Solution"

and a paragraph that begins:

"To remove the warning message from Client Security Solution 7.0 or Rescue and Recovery 3.1 without applying the Microsoft hotfix, complete the following procedure:"

Underneath that the instructions lay. But again there's the problem of extracting those .adm files. I don't know how to do that.

What I meant was that the '.adm' file is not in the tool download as far as I can see. I downloaded it, ran it and went through all the files/ apps. etc but no sign of the template.

Yeah neither :S

Another gripe I have with the password manager, is it no longer has an option where it generates random passwords for you. That was a seriously useful function.

Don't really like the function of the new CSS v7. Still prefer the old times where we can drag using the cursor. Anyway hope the next version will be better!

Had enough with CSS7, so tried (once again) do remove and reinstall CSS6. Cannot remove all of CSS7 so stuck until next version... So now with CSS 'nothing' which is better than CSS7!

The hotfix is now on software installer's database. It seems to remove the warning dialog box on the system.

Now all that's left is for css's password manager to actually do what's advertised in its help files.

supra. firefox / type and transfer tool behaviour above.

Software Installer wanted to put CSS7 back in, so I had another go last night. Discovered why I have to enter my fingerprint twice; as I had disabled the non-descript CSS7 log-in window, in preference to the Windows log-in, my fingerprint was required to enable CSS7.
As there is no change (-I thought that there may be something different with S/W Installer doing the job) CSS7 is coming out again.

password manager not working with Private Disk

#21 Post by xcoll2001 » Sun Jun 11, 2006 8:34 am

I have also found that the new Password Manager from CSS 7 not compatible with it's own Private Disk. It somehow incorrectly stores the log in information.

Another problem i have is with Maxthon wichi is a derivative of Internet Explorer. With CSS 6 it worked very well.

The CTRL F2 isn't responding the way it was in CSS 6. In fact I don't know if it is working at all.

As of now, CSS 7 is nearly useless since it preforms far less than the previous version. Uninstalling is a terrible hassle so I am rather stuck with it.

Does CSS7 actually do anything useful?

unfortunately with our work CSS securedisk/private disk was a necessity and the broken feature negated the efficiency the software was for us previously.

Has anyone succesfully uninstall CSS 7?

Thanks.

CSS7 private disk is much more up to date than v6

#25 Post by Tony's X60s » Mon Jun 12, 2006 12:37 am

One of the main reasons I upgraded to CSS7 was that the embedded Utimaco PrivateDisk product is much more recent than the one in CSS6 (sorry, I haven't kept the details of version numbers). However, I found by trial and error that as soon as you upgrade, you need to run the security settings wizard again as administrator to take ownership again and re-enroll all users. If you don't do this (and the write-up doesn't make it crystal clear you have to) it all "sort of" works but not very well.

Lenovo have just released a 202 page ThinkVantage Technologies Deployment Guide (available on the IBM/Lenovo support website) which has the first good description I have seen of how it all works together. In particular, the first sections of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are very useful. Much of the guide is far too techo for me, but the overview bits I found really helpful.

If fact, if anyone comes up with a recipe for a clean uninstall, I'd like to reinstall it and this time do it properly - it may get rid of the last few annoying issues I've got with it.

Heh, with the state of CSS 7 as it is, you're better off using a 3rd party tool for encryption and password management.

I've resorted to using pwsafe (http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net) to handle my passwords in the meantime, while I find the time to try get CSS6 back.

Tried that but had no luck, again, with passwords and Firefox.

Nick, CC7 works perfectly on my system, including the fingerprint reading.

Did you check this site for the bios settings?

Zeitgeist: I don't think the majority is having problems with the fingerprint reading in CSS 7.

Can you use password manager with Firefox or Internet Explorer? How about using it to mount a secureDisk.

Tony's X60s: My user account has administrator priviliges but in any case i tried also by logging in as an administrator and re-enrolled. Sadly the problem i described still persisted. Password manager failed to capture the correct information at the log-on screen.

So i am rather at a loss how you managed to have CSS 7 working with PrivateDisk since I still can't have it working. Is it also working on your end with Internet explorer?

I also visited Ultimaco website and i don't see anywhere that mentioned the PrivateDisk requires CSS 7.

Thanks.
