Any experience with 2GB memory chips and T60p?
Any experience with 2GB memory chips and T60p?
Hi,
I would like to upgrade my 2623DDU to 3GB. While Crucial still has these listed at some outrageous price (a little under $1800 as of this morning!), there's a few others listed on dealram.com that seem a bit more reasonable (~$300).
Has anyone had any experiences with these chips?
Thanks,
Jason

I don't have experience with 2gb Memory modules, but why do you need 3gb RAM? 2gb is plenty for anything out there that you would be doing on a notebook anyways. I would suggest waiting for 2gb module prices to come down before investing $300 in something that, right now, wont be taken advantage of.
HackBook Pro: T60p 2623DDU / 2.0Ghz Core Duo / 1gb / 100gb 7200rpm / FireGL V5200 256mb / 15" FlexView IPS / Atheros AR5BXB6 / JaS 10.4.6 -> 10.4.7 / XBench: 92.50
I guess I am one of those rarities - I actually do have a use for 3GB of RAM. I'm working on the development of some high-performance memory-based applications, and need to be able to simulate within my development environment (which includes my T60p) something similar to a server environment.
The extra memory will give me more breathing room when I have the application + the surrounding development tools running, and will also give me the ability to disable swapping during certain benchmarking/performance testing scenarios.
That said - I do have 1.5GB in my T60p right now. I could hold out with that for a bit longer, however the upgrade would definitely increase my productivity.

Wow, that's interesting, I wouldn't have thought that there would be a legitimate use for >2gb ram, but it seems you actually have one!

Hi jb_973,
I would be careful, these are all 2x1GB Kit. This is so anoying, I am also searching for a 2 GB Memory module, but I think nobody has one so far. The cruicial offer is not available at the moment. It was available a few weeks ago for about 700 USD.
There is on module from transcend which costs about the same, but it is a only 533 module, so not the maximum performance the chipset would provide.
It would be great if somebody could comment only if he or she has such a module, and not always ask why do you need it, we had that too often.

Because the density of the ICs needed to shove 2GB of addressable memory on something as small as a sodimm is incredible?jb_973 wrote:
I wonder why these chips are in such short supply right now?
Its new technology... itll come, but like all new technology, its rare when its launched and insanely expensive.
