has anyone used this before? My HD is running way too hot and stumbled across this on the hitachi site.

it says you can adjust power consumption, and am hoping this will take the temp down. i dont care if its a bit slower if its not baking around 60C all the time.

Hitachi Feature Tool (v2.01)
[Current] [Dell Latitude D630] : [Past] [T43] [T40] [T23] [T20] [R40] [X22] [600E] [570] [765D]
I've used it for a number of drives, both Hitachi brand and not - but generally to reduce the seek noise. The one time I tried the power saving feature was on my new z60t. Unfortunately after setting the power saving and rebooting, the drive just started clicking and would no longer boot. I can't be *certain* that it wasn't just coincidence, as it's possible, but I'd use this tool with caution. At the very least, back up first!

i tried it but it wouldnt let me do any of the stuff that could ruin the drive- just in depth scan crap.
however...my drive was up to 66C when i booted off the floppy to run the test, and before i shut down the drive was vibrating. sounds wonderful!
