Why is T2400 the fastest option to x60 ??

Why is the x60 only available in T2400 processor (except for the lower speeds)? Could it be that it's the strongest processor it is able to cool down properly? That means i won't be able to upgrade to merom if i want to with higher clock freq.
I'm also affraid it's not as fast as the other lappies with T2400 processor.

The T60 is available up to T2600.

It's probably a combination of heat dissipation and battery life.

Speaking from my ownership experience with the X60s configured with the L2300 chip, it's suprisingly fast! Again I find that much like analyzing data, vs. real world experience, the X series are quite a bit faster than the specs suggest. As far as the T2400, as implemented by other brands vs. ThinkPad implementation, I would expect the speed comparison to be the same if not faster in the case of the ThinkPad. The reason is as an overall package I find ThinkPads optimized better than the others out there.

I chose the 1705-24U model with battery life, small size & easy portability in mind. An all around ultralight to take everywhere with me. Once I got mine, I was quite suprised with the speed, even though it's of no importance to me with this computer.

In addition I also agree with trentblase, it's about heat dissipation and battery life. Which brings up a good point, and that is how cool and quite the new ThinkPads run as compared to other brands and models. One that is especially problematic is the new line of MacBook Pro, and MacBook computers. Friends of mine that have each of these are experiencing some very major heat issues.

Finally it's been my experience (at least prior to Lenovo) that the ThinkPad division is very conservative and their first priority is to provide a stable platform. One that results in supreme reliability and performance, as so much of their user base is corporate. However as time has revealed, they also stay quite up to date with the product line.
