T60 warranty

#1 Post by Ervin » Fri Jun 02, 2006 1:03 am

I have just logged on lenovo.com and found out that my 1953D7U, which I bought 3 days ago from TechOnWeb, was manufactured on 2006/03/22 and its warranty will expire on 2007/03/22.

Is this correct? 'Cause fair it is not, that's for sure.

P.S. I just want to emphasize that TechOnWeb is an IBM Business Partner, not a grey-market reseller.

If you register the laptop with IBM and list your date of purchase I believe it will correct the start date. As for the duration, 1 year is correct for that model.

1 year is correct. 10 months should not be. ;)

I have just registered on lenovo.com. I will see if anything changes. Right now, it shows the same date of expiration as before.

I think you have to call EZServ and fax them your receipt/invoice for them to correct the warranty date.

And of course, the number is 800-IBM-SERV. Keep your receipt, just in case. They will honor the receipt

I do know for a fact that in the event you sell the computer (used) to someone else (or buy a used ThinkPad from a private person or bus) that the warranty stays with the computer. No transfer of warranty is required, nor willl they process that request.

Please let us know the result, regarding the warranty start date. I have heard that the warranty begins the day the computer is shipped out to either the end customer or the reseller. I do not however know this to be fact.

Thanks... :D

I wrote this on another forum but i'll rewrite it here:

I read that i "might" have to register the product and send proof of purchase to be able to use my warranty.
Does it say the same in your "Service and warranty" booklet under chapter 2 part 1?

"Hvis kunden ikke registerer Maskinen hos Lenovo, må kunden kanskje fremlegge ett kjØpsbevis som bekreftelse på retten til garantiservice.

Translated:

If the customer does not register the machine to Lenovo, the customer might have to provide proof of purchase as confirmation to the right to warranty services.

I must remember to note the location of the forum member asking the question. The info I posted is for the USA and it certainly is different than for other regions. Next time I will be more careful. :)

If you require warranty service and the website is coming up as expired (but you know you aren't expired yet) Lenovo will get you to send in a proof of purchase and they will update the coverage accordingly. You might want to do it now, and avoid a future delay when you actually need the service.
