i imagine most of these things will work with other brands. i use a linksys router with a no name pcmcia card, and a cisco internal wifi card.

its pretty much a simple thing to do- install the software (and hope it automatically configures your settings)...otherwise get ready to call tech support!

it should give you step by step instructions on the install if its anything like linksys...which i dont know if it is.

well good luck!!

Been doing a little more reading...is the 802.11g card a router a waste of money....will the t23 only support speeds as high as 802.11b .... or does the maximun possible speed rely entirely on the capability of the router and card...in other words will it try to transfer data at 11g speeds instead of 11b ... am i confusing anyone else yet?..cause i'm sure getting myself confused!!

im sorry that my knowledge is limited between b and g. i would think it has nothing to do with the computer, and everything to do with the card that plugs into the computer and the routers capabilities.

i have a mini pci card in the bottom of my r40, does the same thing as a card you would slide into the pc slot on the laptop- but its internal, and runs through antennas in the lcd casing.

yea it should work without a hitch. the only problems ive ever had was setting up the internal wireless, which had 3 different programs always trying to run it, until i cleared that up.

this place is great- ive only been here a month and ive learned a lot. hopefully soon enough ill be giving detailed advice instead of just personal experiences.

jpo, The letters after the numbers refer to a standard. Some people get all into having the newest standard. I have a collection of wifi PC Cards & USB cards. All have internal antennas. One, an old Enterasys Romabout PC Card (PC Card & PCMCIA Card refer to the same thing. Marketing departments coined the "PC Card" label for promotional purposes), is simply a 802.11 DS High Rate that can take an external antenna but I do not bother with one.

I use the Enterasys for handheld PCs that can use only 16-bit cards. The standard today is 32-bit. I use all my wifi devices for use throughout my home & in libraries & various places that have wireless access points like coffee shops, courthouses, etc. I really do not have any problems connecting or surfing and I notice no speed difference.

I would just buy the cheapest card you can get that works. By the way, if you can find a Sandisk combo wifi plus 128MB card, you should be able to get a never been used unit cheap. These are good cards with excellent power management & the 128MB CF comes in handy.
