Purchasing a T60 3rd Party - Zones

#1 Post by sbc » Fri Jun 02, 2006 4:24 pm

I wanted to know what concerns, if any, I should have from purchasing a T60p 3rd party. The comany is Zones, I am not trying to advertise, but they can be googled. The equipment will be leased via a business.

I was considering the 2623DDU model. I am not sure if it was a model more prevelant to stuck pixels. If I am dissatisfied, Zones said I would have to directly deal with the 3rd party vendor. I guess my main concern is getting a unit with several stuck pixels and both Zones and IBM do not provide ample customer service.

Can anyone attest to their service? Or IBM's service when purchased from a third party vendor?

I have sourced ThinkPads directly from IBM/Lenovo, as well as using 3rd party resellers. The only difference is if you buy direct from Lenovo, there is a 30 day no questions asked return policy. Regarding the resellers each has their own policy. Once outside the return period, Lenovo treats warranty repairs the same. They do not care who you purchased from. You get the exact same converage.

I have a corp account with Lenovo, yet it's of little advantage regarding timely delivery of computers. They usually have nothing in stock and the wait times vary from 15 to 60 (or more) days, this is extremely frustrating
.
Often your very best bet is either Euclid Computers or CostCentral. These are two reliable online resellers. I personally use Euclid as I have recieved the best service, no sales tax, and they almost always have the computers I need in stock. They process the order the same day and if ordered early in the day I have received the computers the very next day! They also ship internationally. Prices are very competitive and they always provide new, sealed box products. (no I do not work for them).

Hope this helps.... :D

I finally found a dealer that won't charge taxes to CA. I have a couple of questions for you.

Will they open my laptop and check for dead pixels?

If the t60 I get is a lemon will they still charge me a 15% restocking fee.

And can you negotiate pricing over the phone?

Thanks in advance.

I cannot answer your questions because the name of the dealer is not in your message. My suggestion is try www.EuclidComputers.com
I know that they do not charge sales tax in CA. and other members here report that they will check out the computer for you. When you go to their web site you can read the return policy.

Most sellers won't unseal a Thinkpad package to check for dead or stuck pixels. The only way to buy a Thinkpad with a return privelege is to buy direct from IBM Lenovo and pay the sales tax. Bill Morrow (this sites owner) does sell Thinkpads direct and doesn't charge sales tax to CA, and he may be willing to check for dead pixels prior to shipping, but you probably would have to pay a premium to get one that is guaranteed with a perfect screen, if it can be done. Remember, once the box is open, it's no longer brand new sealed, making it worth less than a sealed unit.

Almost every IBM/Lenovo partner is restricted from accepting Thinkpad returns for any reason from all of its partners, and they are instructed to direct the customer to Lenovo when there is any sort of defect. Of course, DOA units can be sent back as such to respective vendors if you paid via credit card, as this is one thing they cannot refuse to take back given credit card rules that merchants must abide by when it comes to merchandise that is delivered DOA.

Most online merchants won't negotiate pricing, the price is set. Lenovo for sure won't negotiate pricing, nor will most IBM partners, unless you have a corporate account, discounts are not the norm.
