A scratch!

I got my lovely T42 in the mail from Hong Kong on wednesday morning.
I was so excited, unfortunately when I opened the laptop I discovered a small scratch on the LCD . Its not big, approximately 1/3" long and in the upper left hand corner (2" down from top and 1" right of the left edge if anyone was curious). It looked like someone picked it up and stuck their thumbnail in it as they installed it possibly. In any event, I called IBM up and they overnighted me a laptop box to ship it to them. On the phone the CSR was helpful and seemed optomistic about getting the screen replaced (not sure if a scratch can be repaired...). I was wondering if anyone had any similar circumstances in the past, and what was your experience? Anyone who would know anything would be helpful, I searched for screen problems and I kept finding stuck/stuck on pixel problems, and this is clearly a scratch, it is visible when the laptop is on or off. I hope it does get repaired, as so far IBM has been very nice and helpful and everyone who has a thinkpad rants about it, and, other than that problem, I love my machine.

Well, John, I definitely think the EasyServ people will repair your laptop all nice and new. I have no idea how long it will take

Well, I personaly would not send it in to easy serv. It's a brand new laptop they would get it back and send me a new one.

yea, i thought of that, but my problem is that i need it for school in 12 days, and an identical model is backordered a month according to the phone tech and im not interested in a double charge on my credit card, so time is of the essence for me , i thought i'd try this, i was told i should get my laptop in about 5 days, so ive still got 20 days to return it if i absolutely have to.

My T42 also has a very slight scratch at the lower left corner. The scratch is not deep and it's not visible when the LCD is on. So I kept it since I've got no dead pixels. I don't wanna risk that.

But I did try calling the returns dept and waiting almost half an hour on the phone. What the hell happened to IBM service?
