T60 Plastic

#1 Post by drewnyc » Sat Jun 03, 2006 2:36 pm

The images of the T60 show:

a plastic body that is shiny
three screws at the bottom of the screen
trackpoint mouse buttons that are sqaure instead of curved (T42)

are all these features an indication that the T60 is a "cheaper" feel model then the T4x's?

is Lenovo ruining the T series?

:(

Mod Edit: No double-posting. Thread locked and moved to appropriate forum.
T42 - 1.7GHz - 1GB - 60GB 72k - 1400x1050 - 14.1" - 32MB Radeon - DVD Burn - G/B/Blue/Finger.

I'm not a big fan of all the design changes in the T60 series, but I do not believe they are made of cheap plastic.
Lenovo wrote:Distinctive design elements like the TrackPoint pointing device are what set ThinkPad notebooks apart from the rest. This unique pointing device is standard on all of our notebooks’ legendary full-size keyboard. We now offer three types of TrackPoint cap choices which allow you to further customize your notebook: Classic Dome, Soft Dome or the Soft Rim.
It does seem odd that this is what they choose to highlight for the distinctive design elements of the T Series (including the T60). These features have been in the ThinkPad lineup for years. Lenovo does not seem to be touting what they have added to the table.
Lenovo wrote:Hard drive protection for your system and your valuable data is available by combining the ThinkPad Roll Cage with our shock-mounted hard drive on new T60 models. The ThinkPad Roll Cage protects critical system components against accidents or jolts with a magnesium alloy frame that surrounds the interior parts, absorbing shock and helping to reduce failures and improve durability and reliability. The ThinkPad Shock-Mounted Hard Drive is mounted in rubber rails to enhance durability and reduces shock to the hard drive from any direction. Work undaunted by bumps and drops thanks to designed durability.
Note the ThinkPad Roll Cage with a magnesium alloy frame.

First, chill, breathe in and out, then maybe switch to decaf; now go browse through the T6X Series Forum, X6X Series Forum, and the Z6X Series Forum and read about everything. ;) :)

In short, no; the new T60s are just about 95% similar, in terms of outward appearance from a distance, to the T4X series. Also, they still have the polymerized coating if that is what you are worried about. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I had moved this thread to the Off Topic due to the Lenovo Bashing thing that has been done to death, seemed more appropriate there. After the OP saw it gone he reposted the other T60 Plastic thread.
