T42 - is C:\i386 patched with SP1?
T42 - is C:\i386 patched with SP1?
I want to create my own WinXP bootable CD for future reinstallation. I learned from the forum that we can slipstreaming a copy of WinXP with SP1.
My question are,
1. Has the default directory "C:\I386" in the T42 machine already been patched with SP1? If not, I need to manually do the patch before burning the CD, as taught in http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=295, right?
2. Does the OEM stuff already in "C:\I386" (e.g. the IBM logo shown System Properties)?
3. Does anyone know how to get and apply all latest patches (those after SP1) into the C:\I386 directory? In such way, I don't even need to do the Windows Update after reinstall.
Thanks.

Just found the anwser on how to slipstreaming the windows hotfix into WinXP. See the link: http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/installhotfixes.htm
But still don't know if the C:\I386 directory contains all IBM OEM settings, e.g. the IBM logo shown on the System Properties dialog box?

Having copied contents of XPP onto Hard drive,
I have replaced the I386 files from the laptop.
How do I make bootable ISO from these copied files?
Then I will be able to confirm if indeed all the logos, SP1 etc are there...........or not!
Thanks

The i386 folder is indeed Windows XP SP1.
To get the OEM logo and other IBM customizations you'll need to work a little harder. It's all post-install customizations. Do a search for OEMLOGO in the i386 folder. Also, the website that was linked earlier is a good reference.
