#1 Post by SPANKY. » Sun Jun 04, 2006 4:10 pm

Sorry if this is a dumb question but the memory for the t60p,is it the same as for the earlier models? Can earlier t series notebooks memory work?Or is the t60p memory only made for that model?

The T60 uses DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 SODIMMs. The T43 uses DDR2 533MHz PC2-4200 SODIMMs. Not sure about the other previous T models. You could probably put the PC2-4200 memory in the T60, but it would clock down all of the memory to match the slowest SODIMM.

The memory is:

T60 - PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 / CL5
T43 - DDR PC2700 / DDR333 / CL=2.5
T30 - DDR PC2700 / DDR333 / CL=2.5
T23 - SDRAM PC133 / 133MHz / CL=2

So while you may use the DDR PC 2700 ram from the T4x series the computer will slow the other PC2-533 chip down to match the speed of the slower memory, so that they operate at the same speed.

If you shop around, you may find that there is not that much of a price premium for the faster PC2-5300 667 MHz ram. Then you will enjoy the fastest performance possible.

The current T43's on Lenovo's site claim to have DDR2 PC2-4200 memory. Is that a mistake?

T43 indeed uses DDR2 PC2-4200 533mhz memory.
