Buying new laptop and International shipping
Buying new laptop and International shipping
I am a new member in this forum and it is my first post here.
It is really amazing, very helpfull, informative forum.
I need some help/guidance from senior members regarding the purchase of new laptop.
I am now working in China (not chinese). Searched in the local market here for a new T60/T43. Unfortunately all come here with the Chinese Windows OS. I contacted with IBM LENOVO China by phone and e-mail as well, but no use!
Now planning to buy from US. Need some guidance about a reputable trusted store to buy. I have narrowed down to 200783U or 200768U.
Also checked the LENOVO USA site. The delivery time is long. I cant wait 3~6 weeks.
Please suggest the options 83U vs 68U, is it worth spending extra 500 USD, while I dont care for extra .26 G processor.
Can any guy guide me about the custom/import duty in China. I just need one system for my personal use and will carry it back to my country by the end this year.
Thanks for help!

This online store has a very good reputation and several of the members of the forum including myself have purchased from them. They sell at a very good price and back it up with terrific customer service. You can have it delivered to you and save some money in the process. There are testimonials on other threads here in this forum from very happy customers of Euclid. Not one has had a bad experience. They are very easy to communicate with, as they return all emails promptly and may also be contacted by telephone.
I have personally purhcased many ThinkPads from them over the last few years and I am very happy.
If you have further questions please ask, I would be happy to assist you.
Regards,
Archer6

I am in process of model selection and soon will place the order. I had locked on 200768U, but the delivery status is :7~10 days at euclid , confused what to do, I need it urgent! What about PC Nation, they have in Stock.
Can anybody explain why there is a big difference in price at different stores? 200768U ranges from 2335~2779 USD.
Any suggestion about the replacement model T43 2668Q2U , which euclid have in stock for immediate delivery.

hello mazhar.
if you're close to HK then buying from there might be a better option. I bought my 200783H (English OS) from HK. THe price is comparable to that of US Lenovo website.
if you're interested, I can send you the dealer where I bought my T60P.

2007 68U has 2.0 processor 1GB memory 100 GB 7200 rpm drive, DVD burner and fingerprint reader.
Less expensive models have slower processors, less memory, slower 5400 drive, CDRW combo drives, no fingerprint reader etc.
Stay away from the T43, you will be disappointed. There is simply too many improvements and advantages to the T60.Mazhar wrote:Any suggestion about the replacement model.

Please remember that I do not work for Euclid, I'm simply a very satisfied customer as they do exactly what they promise. You can count on them. They are IBM/Lenovo Certified. They care about their customers and return all calls and emails right away.
Here is what I was able to find for you.
IN STOCK: $2338 USD: 2007-63U Core Duo T2500 2.00 1GB 14.1" SXGA+ 128MB 100G 5400 DVD±RW Intel 11a/b/g
Currently in stock at Euclid Computers as compared to the model below which as you know is out of stock. The only difference is the hard drive which is 5400rpm as opposed to the 7200rpm in the model below. You save some money and they have it in stock as of 2:45PM Pacific Time Monday June 5th as of this writing. I point that out only because they do a lot of business and once I waited and by then they were sold out.
Out of stock: $2506 USD: 2007-68U Core Duo T2500 2.00 1GB 14.1" SXGA+ 128MB 100G 7200 DVD±RW Intel 11a/b/g
If I have be of further assistance please let me know. You can always send me a PM (Personal Message here)
Cheers

I have already gone for a t43 2668q2u, due to change of my mind for the flex view 15" screen, and Euclid had this in their stock. I am not sure whether good or bad decision!
63U was a better option, and I definitely would think about that if I read this post in time.
Order is shipped already and I will hopefully receive next week, and will share my experience then.
Thanks all! take care

The only reason I suggested the T60 model, was that of all the T series we have used over the years (in my company), the T43 was the only one with some problems of any consequence. However, that said hopefully you will get a good one that is free of problems.Mazhar wrote:Thanks rnsolo and archer

Also remember that Euclid has a good return program as long as you act within the time limit. So with that in mind, if you change your mind you could exchange your T43 for the T60 very easily. Especially if you did not open the T43 box, just call for an RMA number and ship it back.
There are just so many improvements on the T60 that if you plan on keeping your computer for a few years or more it would be worth it.
Cheers!

Hi archer,
I just ordered a T60 from Euclid (2623D6U) since there seem to have a good reputation amoung our forum members.
Right now, I have mixed feelings about them but as the order hasn't been sent out yet, I don't want to go into the details.
Anyways, I'm crossing my fingers and hope my order will go smoothly especially since I'm an overseas buyer (although I asked them to ship the PC to a local US address).

Hopefully all will turn out fine with your order. Unfortunately no business or system is perfect. Just today FedEx lost one of my ThinkPads that I was sending to my brother. I'm now in the "holding pattern" waiting for them to try and find it.
Good luck and keep us posted...

If you are getting it shipped to the US, why did you order from Euclid instead of Lenovo? It is only $60 cheaper with Euclid. Lenovo lets you return it at no cost within 30 days of shipment -- I presume you have someone on the other end who can have a look at it for you (D.O.A., dead pixels, etc.)jagged wrote:I just ordered a T60 from Euclid (2623D6U) since there seem to have a good reputation amoung our forum members.

Yah, that's what I was thinking at first but the US address I'm sending it to is my forwarder's office so there's no one who can check the computer for me. That's why I opted for a reseller and gave some instructions since they are installing a RAM upgrade to also check dead pixels, etc.
What I had to be sure though is that unit needs to have international warranty since the local IBM service center's location is in a convenient location.

Euclid does not charge sales tax, so that saves me about $250 USD here in California. A substantial savings and I still have 2 weeks to return it if needed. Granted not as long as 30 days but for the tax savings it's worth it.jagged wrote:Yah, that's what I was thinking at first but the US address I'm sending it to is my forwarder's office so there's no one who can check the computer for me. Then there is the issue of inventory. For example I have a 200796U ordered through Lenovo (in this case because of my large corp discount) yet I've been waiting nearly 3 months!
In this same time frame Euclid has had quantities of these available from time to time. I just checked their site this morning and again they have them in stock, as does CostCentral, whom show 25 in inventory. When I ask my Lenovo rep why he cannot supply the computer and the resellers can, he has no suitable response....
There is something seriously wrong with the Lenovo distribution systems priorities.

Me too have mixed feelings about Euclid regarding my order. Response seems not Good, regarding the product will share later when I receive that!!!

Hi Mazhar,
That was my concern too since someone brought up the issue in another thread. But I talked to at least two Lenovo sales reps and they confirmed that ALL THINKPADS (including 2623) has international warranty as well although "normally", the 2623 buyer will want it serviced in the US.
Pretty misleading, huh?
archer, Euclid just confirmed that my order has been sent out, will update when I finally get it.

T60 UK in US
Hi all,
I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and am impressed by the helpfullness and knowledge out there. I have finally joined up and so here is my first post...
I am just about to leave for Chicago in the US where I will be working for 6 weeks, and am planning to buy a T60 (probably a 200768U from euclid) for work will I am there (my trusty Vaio Z1 is approcahing retirement). I will then return to the UK where I am based. This model comes with a 3 year international warranty
What is the simplest way to end up with a UK keyboard rather than a US one, I assume just buying a UK keyboard when I return to the UK and fit it myself is the easiest? What changes will I have to make to XP to become UK localised rather than US?
Also does anybody have any experience of sales Tax, VAT, customs duties etc in this situation?
Any suggestions or advice appreciated
Thanks
tucan
