No sound from internal speakers

Hi.

I've had my T42 for about 6 months, with no problems.

Now all of a sudden I'm getting no sound from my internal speakers. The output from the headphone jack is normal. I haven't made any changes to drivers or anything.

Has anyone heard of this problem or do you have any suggestions?

sounds like a lose connection inside the laptop or maybe a blown speaker

A flaky headphone jack can cause this problem. There are some contacts that close when you remove the headphone plug. If these contacts do not make good connection, your internal speakers will not work. Try plugging and unplugging your headphones several times, and see if one of the times it starts working.

I am assuming you have not opened your laptop up, where you might have damaged a ribbon cable.

I had this problem after a new mobo had been fitted. Headphone jack worked OK, but speakers were dead. Opened up the machine to find that the tiny ribbon between the mobo and the daughter speaker board was trapped by a case screw. Freed it, taped over the insulation (the screw had caused dead short to case) and all works well. Don't know who my company returned it to - would be either IBM or Lenovo I guess.
