Fn+F3: works, but no more OSD?

#1 Post by mavis » Sun Jun 04, 2006 11:41 pm

Hey guys,

I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction here, a minor issue but one I want to find an answer to.

A few weeks ago I changed the Fn+F3 settings to simply power off the display without showing the on screen display. I would now like to change it back to showing the OSD when I press Fn+F3, but I can't seem to find the dialog box anywhere!! I opened Power manager and poked around, but nowhere does it allow me to swtich the Fn+F3 behavior. There is only one 'Options' button but all it does is toggle the tray icon on/off.

Any ideas? How can I get Fn+F3 to show an on screen display again, rather than just powering off the screen?

Thanks / mavis

Thanks for the reply, but that stuff is enabled already ... What I want is that black PWMOSD.EXE thing to pop up, not the green indicator at the bottom of the screen. I want the window which allows you to quickly toggle between power profiles. It used to work, but once you disable it, it seems there's no way to get it back.

Any ideas?

On my T42, the only thing Fn + F3 does is turn the display off and on. There is no on-screen menu. This must be for a T43, or a ThinkPad that has Power Manager installed. I do not have this, so someone else will have to help you.

I am assuming here that you are not talking about Presentation Director which is controlled by Fn + F7.

Thanks again for the reply.

First of all, I managed to fix this problem by uninstalling Power Manager and the Fn Hotkey tool, then reinstalling. And yes, I guess it is a feature of Power Manager - it gives you the option of either having Fn+F3 turn off the LCD or making it pop up a profile switching menu. Although I don't actually need to switch profiles that often, I do find myself enabling the battery meter from time to time and that pop-up just so happens to link to Power Manager, which allows me to toggle the tray icon on/off (much like Fn+F5's pop-up menu links to Access Connections) ...

Anyway thanks again, problem solved. ;)
