WOW ! New T43 owner hopes to be welcomed on-board...

Wow, guys, just picked my brand new T43 (2668-6ZU) out of the post office. Took a while shipping from US (expected delay, nothign to eb concerned about), but boy ! this is the beauty....
Battery turned to be charged to about 70% from the box which is nice to be able to power up the machine without being able to hook it up to the main power (didn't have US-to Israeli wall outlet socket adapter).
The machine has booted up and set the account nicely, though I have yet established network connection so no internet to register with IBM and run updates.
So far things look good.

Get ready to be flushed with my "new Thinkpad user" questions soon...:-)
Now off to update my signature here...

Welcome new ThinkPad owner! :D

This forum is a great place to ask questions and get answers. But I might steer you to a couple of places to help you answer some of your first questions.

First press the blue Access IBM button, and when Access IBM comes up, click on Learn at the left side of the menu at the top. Lot of good basic info there.

Next come back here, and starting from the Forum Index page, go to the READ ME FIRST FAQ then post > Announcement: FAQ (thinkpads.com - Frequently Asked Questions). A lot more good info there.

Welcome alexzabr! Feel free to write down every question here which pops into your mind. And while I'm not that helpful and Thinkpad related tech questions, you can ask me everything about Deskmodding :)

Thank you guys, appreciate your assistance.
Well, first of all, once I'll get home I'll be willing to get my Thinkpad connected to the network for Internet access in order to run IBM/Windows registration and updates.
At home I have my desktop connected through ADSL (via USB - by ADSL-to-USB modem) and the PC has network PCI card on-board. So far I never used home networking, have no idea about any necessary networking setup (in OS of both computers).
Any assistance on what shall be configured on both systems ? (aside of suitable cable, of course)
Once setting up this wired network, can I establish internet access through it on the laptop ?
14.1" T43 2668-6ZU machine.
ATI x300, 1GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, all the connectivity (except of Bluetooth), DVD/CD-WR Combo...
Still excited about this great machine...

Sure.
Setup "internet Connection Sharing" on the desktop pc and use a cat5 network crossover cable to connect the T43 to the desktop pc. No setup should be required on the T43.
Then you should have internet on both computers.

I recommend before you hook up any network connection to your computer, that (1) you verify that Windows Firewall is turned on, and (2) make sure Norton Antivirus (which should be included) is up and running.

It is also a very good idea to make a set of Product Recovery Discs soon after you get your ThinkPad. Many users don't do this and end up regretting it later.

To begin your connection to the internet, plug in the ethernet cable from you modem to the RJ45 jack. Launch Access Connections and create a home profile. This is fairly straight forward, but come back if you have any questions.

First download Antivirus updates. You will probably have to do this several times, and reboot a couple of times. Next get all the Security Updates from Windows Update. After this, you can update the IBM software and drivers if you so desire.

EDIT: carbon-unit's reply is more in line with what you are trying to accomplish. I was describing a straight connection to the internet.

Excellent, thanks, sounds a wise dircetion to proceed with.
However the ADSL modem I have at home is connected to my PC by USB, what I meant is to connect the laptop to the PC through Ethernet (by an appropriate cable) until I'll purchase and set up wireless router. Then, through Ethernet get connected my laptop to Internet (in such way my PC will serve as a temporary router).
