Fan and Power Issues on R40E
Fan and Power Issues on R40E
My R40E has started switching itself off without warning.
It appears the fan has stopped. How can I get at the fan?
I've removed every screw in sight on the base but I still can't get the base off to clean/replace the fan.
Is it safe to run from mains only without the battery fitted?

To get to the fan, I believe you have to pull out the keybord etc...
HERE THE INSTRUCTIONS

I have a R40 also and had the same problem (I didn't fix though it just fixed on its own...)
GOOD LUCK

Or you could use the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
The HMM will show you have to get to/remove just about every part of the R40.

its very easy to get at the fan. i had never opened a laptop up before (at least one that i had intentions of putting back together) but went ahead on the r40 to take a look inside. just make sure when you fit the keyboard back on, once in place you press down and forward towards the screen to lock it in. otherwise, some keys wont work, and thats just not right!

Re: Fan and Power Issues on R40E
No power issues here, it's just a consequence of that failing fan.R40E User wrote:My R40E has started switching itself off without warning.
It shuts down automatically when the CPU temperature reaches 90°C. On some models, at 100°C. This is to protect the CPU from damage by severe overheating. Some BIOS models probably have the ability to change this autoshutdown temperature.
Yes, absolutely safe. Just remember that your laptop will shut down in case of a power failure just like desktop PCsR40E User wrote:Is it safe to run from mains only without the battery fitted?
You shouldn't always keep the battery in and charging, that'll degrade it.
