Can you swap LCD between T30 and T43?

#1 Post by tronic » Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:50 am

A friend has two TPs... wants to swap the LCD screen between the two.

T30: 2366-JCU (SXGA+ LCD, 1400x1050, 14.1")
T43: 2668-43U (XGA LCD, 1024x768, 14.1")

He's familiar with Thinkpads and hardware hacking; taken them apart for work and reassembled, and has the right tools.

But he noticed something interesting... the connector from the LCD to the motherboard is not in the exact same place on both machines.

On the T30, the ribbon connector is located to the left of center.
On the T43, the ribbon connector is located to the left.

I'm not sure exactly how far apart the two are, but apparently, enough to be noticeable.

Is a swap like this even possible or feasible? Or is there something special about the hardware (other than alignment/placement) that would rule it out?

What do you think?

Are there even the same number of pins on the connectors?

I know in the T4x series, there is a different number of connectors on the panel for XGA vs SXGA.

Heh. Oh well, he's fine with that. He's waiting for the next laptop with the T2700 Core Duo, anyhow, for its VT (virtualization) capabilities, and can get by with two TPs, I daresay. :)

Thanks for the comments!
