XP..Connect to internet

#1 Post by dd » Fri Aug 06, 2004 11:58 am

Hi

Can anybody help me connect my t41p to the internet

Unfortunately, in my haste to switch it on, I forgot to plug the cable modem in!

I have tried setting up a new connection............but with no joy?

Any help gratefully received

Thanks

Normally with the cable plugged in...........it would detect just fine (Desktop).

Therefore, this "Broadband" setup is all new to me!

Anybody?

I am not clear about what you are doing.

You say you have a Desktop computer connected directly to your cable modem and it works.

So then you unplug the network wire from your Desktop and plug the wire into your laptop - Right?

And it doesn't work - Right?

Then, likely, your cable modem is bound to your desktop by the cable company. My cable ISP does that.

To solve this problem, you can try releasing the IP address on your desktop before disconnecting it. That works sometimes and sometimes not. You can call the cable company and ask them to reset your system. The best approach is to release the IP on your Desktop, insert a router between the cable modem and desktop, ask the cable company to reset the connection, and then you should be able to connect and use both computers at the same time.
