Does the 15" model's slightly taller profile minimize the heat from the hard drive a bit?

Does the R series line have the same issue?

I only noticed that it gets a little warm now that you mentioned it. I haven't had any problems with the 14" either, so my hands are probably just not as sensitive :) Either way, seems OK to me.

I would imagine that the distance from the HDD to the palm rest isn't much different between the two models, as it seems to me that IBM would still want to pack everything down nice and tight.

Just my 2 cents.

edit: I didn't notice any heat from my flexview until I really tried to tell the difference. As far as I can tell, my body heat leaves the palm rests about equal. :)

Thanks for the replies. It's not like my hand's on fire, but the heat does become bothersome after awhile because I'm always resting my right hand there.

Would someone who has the 15" weigh in? I need to decide today whether to return my 14" and get the 15" and this is one of the issues I'm using to decide whether it would be worth it to exchange.

My 2373KXU gets warm but no where it is uncomfortable. No warmer than my T40 or R50 did.

My 15" T42 gets very slightly warm around the palmrest (There's a hard disk spinning away under there, not to mention the wireless etc.) - but I thought it was because it loved me...

2373-KXU does get warm in the right hand and the fan blows warm close to the left hand, but is is only slightly and not unconfortable. Take account that I am comparing with my old A20p, that the only thing under the palm rest is a large battery... that was fine design!
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Do you have any idea how the heat compares to the 14" model? Is it a bit cooler?

It's tough to guage people's responses because everyone has a different tolerance to the temp. For me, even a very slight decrease in the temp on the right palmrest would make an enormous difference.

Also, any idea how it compares to the 14" model?

After having spent a day using my dad's 14", I really can't tell a difference in temperature from my 15".

I have been using a T41p for several months, I work at least 12 hours a day on my machine, I would not and cannot consider that the palmrests become even the slightest bit uncomfortable.

These machines are made for hardcore usage, anyone complaning about a Thinkpad will never find comfort.

The Devil never sleeps, whilst I use my Thinkpad for a pillow.

God bless my TP, and I'm atheist.......
