noise/fan/tpfancontrol Question

#1 Post by bessel » Wed Jun 07, 2006 4:04 pm

I did not notice the fan noise until recently sitting in an overly quiet library. Then I tried out the tpfancontrol utility to play with the fan speed. However I found that even with fan speed = 0, I can still hear some 'white noise' from middle to the right part of the notebook. What kind of noise is that? The fan controlled by this utility is obviously located on the left side (which is usually set at a very low speed by bios under the stress level of my work, such browsing, reading etc). Are there two or more fans on T60?

GPU fan is very likely because of its location. Well, I guess I am not able to tweak that one. The GPU temperature is always high, 63 celcius something. I should have bought a machine with Intel GMA950 as X1300 is neither powerful or quiet...

LOL... I love that "overly quiet library" -- my thoughts exactly! 8)

There is only one fan in the T60. It uses heat pipes to cool the GPU. You know this, because when the fan turns off, there is no air coming out, but you still hear the 'whooshing' sound -- which is coming from the hard disk.

Mine is a Fujitsu and it is louder than the fan (<3000rpm).
