128MB ATI Radeon X1400 performance in T60
128MB ATI Radeon X1400 performance in T60
What to expect and not expect from this 128MB ATI Radeon X1400 in a T60?
I never play games on laptop.
I do edit movies (download from miniDV, cutting together into a meaningful piece then, upload to miniDV or burn into DVD).
I do use Photoshop a lot.
Thanks a lot

The T60 (2623D7U) is a solid performer. Here are my preliminary benchmarks based on the Preload image from Lenovo.
-------------------------
T60 2GHz Duo, 512MB RAM, X1400 128MB, 100GB 5400rpm HDD
-------------------------
3DMark05 - 2089 (18% over T43p, 54% over T42p)
3DMark01 - 14311 (10% over T43p, 33% over T42p)
Doom3 (800x600 medium settings) - 51.3fps
-------------------------
T43p 2.26GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI FireGL V3200 128MB, 100GB 7200rpm HDD
-------------------------
3DMark05 - 1715
3DMark01 - 12960
Doom3 (800x600 medium settings) - 27.6fps
-------------------------
T42p 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI FireGL T2 128MB, 100GB 7200rpm HDD
-------------------------
3DMark05 - 971
3DMark01 - 9646
Doom3 (800x600 medium settings) - 18.7fps
I've played a few other games, and the X1400 performs better than either the T42p or T43p with FireGL drivers. So from a gaming and video editing perspective you should be fine (I used my old T40p to edit home videos without a hitch).
Daniel.

I don't do movie editing, but can tell you that the processor, RAM and disk matter much more than the graphics card for running Photoshop. You'd be able to use Photoshop just fine with integrated graphics these days.
I don't do much gaming either, but I can tell you that my T60 plays games like Need for Speed Underground just fine at high detail with a fair amount of antialiasing enabled. (I'm mostly into racing games.) It also plays Nethack flawlessly.

I only play games occassionally but Civilization 4 on my T60 with ATI X1300 has no problems so far on high setting.
I tried my friend's Oblivion and it gets choppy sometimes but I'm not into first person view games as it makes me dizzy. I did hear that the game maker released a new low setting though.

The highest 3DMark05 I've been able to achieve is 2268. This is with overclocking the GPU to 450kHz. I couldn't figure out how to get the video RAM overclocked though. I'm not sticking with it though; I down-clocked it back to default as I don't want it to generate more heat than is necessary, and 2050 (non-overclocked) is more than enough for my needs.

what games do you play?kulivontot wrote:Well I am a gamer, and I have a 64 mb x1300. So considering that your needs are probably a lot less than mine, I think you'll be alright.
I'm thinking of getting a t60 with the x1400? Can i go with a x1300 if I'm going to be playing mainly counterstrike source and starcraft?
How about bf2?
