T43p new user

#1 Post by ex-SOLDIER » Wed Jun 07, 2006 10:20 pm

Well, I'm proud to announce that I will be attaining a T43p Model 2668-G1U shortly. I was just wondering about anything I should do to maximize its potential. I am not well versed in computers as many people in this forum so that is why I seek the advise of the citizens of this forum.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

1.)Make the R&R disk set.

2.)Go through and clean out the stuff you don't want

3.) Update everything, except for the "optional" stuff; update stuff like AC and The Wireless drivers only if you feel like it or there is a significant problem.

4.) Set a schedule for proper maintenance and cleaning of the system

5.) Enjoy. :D

Another question. What are good recommended programs to use for my T43? What are not so useful programs that I can replace?
Right now I'm thinking about using AVG anti virus over the norton
Mozilla to replace the IE
Not too crazy about the PC doctor though...
Sonic CD creator seems alright
Still trying to figure how to permanently remove MSN messenger...It seems like it's embedded into XP...My current desktop has 2000 so it's a little adjustment.

Either AVG or NOD32, I have AVG and I really like it; then turn off the, IMHO useless, Windows firewall and security center. Replace it with something like Kerio. Use either Opera or Mozilla in place of IE, but you will always have a choice between the three.

I don't know what you can do about PC-Doctor, certainly you can un-install it if you wish. Same goes for MSN messenger, it should be in the "Add/Remove Programs" section in the control panel. Barring that, use CCleaner to uninstall it and scrub the registry of its traces.
