Intel Sebring API?
Intel Sebring API?
Hi,
I have had my IBM ThinkPad T40 (2373-72G) for about 5-6 months now, and have only recently actually noticed the rather large (4095MB) Intel Sebring API in the Add/Remove section of my control panel.
This concerns me, as it is taking up a rather large portion of my hard drive space. Is it really needed, and will removing it make much of an impact on my machine?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
Well, color me suprised; I did a quick search on that and I found various links, most of which have to do with Thinkpads.
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... TMP=Linear
^ That is just one of many.
There are also reports of it growing around 4GB

This shouldn't be on the OEM preload of a T4X Series Thinkpad, unless there is something I am missing; the Wireless key combo is pretty much independent of the software (then you only get the on/off feature of it for both wireless and bluetooth) and goes through the BIOS. You will, however, have to have some sort of wrapper for its functionality in an OS in terms of switching on and off the WiFi/Bluetooth seperately.
Did you install the Intel PROset driver package or any other Wireless package from Intel?

It seems like I saw Intel Sebring in Add or Remove Programs in the past on my T42. It is not there now. I did at one point install the drivers downloaded from Intel, but later removed them and went back to the IBM supplied Intel drivers.
I can't remember for sure when I saw the Intel Sebring in Add or Remove Programs, but I thought it was with the original IBM preload. When I get a chance, I'll put in my 2nd hard drive which currently has the original preload and see what it says.
FWIW, if you double click on the following two files, you see the word Sebring.
C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\WLLANINT\IBMTPI.XML
C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\WLANCX2\IBMTPI.XML

Sho 'nuff. In Windows Add or Remove Programs I saw two items:GomJabbar wrote:It seems like I saw Intel Sebring in Add or Remove Programs in the past on my T42.

(1) Intel(R) PRO Network Adapters and Drivers
(2) Intel(R) Sebring API.
No file size was listed for (1), but (2) showed a file size of 4,095.00 MB.
Software Installer displayed the following:
(1) Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Mobil Connection 7.2.17.0
(2) Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2200BG Network Connection 8.1.0.28
(3) Intel(R) Sebring API 8.01.0000
(4) IBM Access Connections 3.30

Excuse me, but....Isn't that a bit *too* large for a wireless API?
I bet that is part of the PROset package, apparently put on there by IBM at some point; probably before they realized that 4GB for a Wireless API was a bit...much.

I have seen weird things happen in the Add&Remove programs *.cpl as well, huges black and white strips, strange file sizes, no file sizes, duplicates, etc....It might be a wacky registry entry.

Some stuff about how program sizes in add/remove programs work:
http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archi ... 78342.aspx
As far as I can tell, this info says it could be either of the following:

As far as I can tell, this info says it could be either of the following:
- A typo
- An incorrect estimation on the part of Windows XP
- Correct info (that it really is taking up 4095MB)
T400, WXGA+, Core2Duo 8400, 4GB RAM, 256MB ATI switchable graphics, 256Gb Crucial M4 SSD
re: Intel Sebring API
I noticed same thing on T41p (2374-GGU) and chased the link to:
C:\Program Files\Intel\SebringAPI\ and that folder was empty.
There is also in C:\Program Files\Intel\ a folder named wireless,
which has some wireless drivers in it.
On my machine in Add/Remove Programs dialogue, the item after
Intel(R) Sebring API is Intervideo WinDVD and that's 16.69 MB.

Hi! Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I figured I'd clarify for the next intrepid searcher:
[edit to add: Thanks for all of the information above! I was quite confused when I noticed the size in Add/Remove Programs.]
Quite right, I did uninstall this, and it did not free up 4 GB, sorry to say. I'm glad it seems to be a reporting error - taking up that much space would be absurd!raabjerg wrote:As far as I can remember, when I uninstalled Sebring API, I didn't notice suddenly having 4gb more diskspace... (but only one way to find out)

I took have a program called Sebring API that is taking up a lot of space. I don't really notice since I still have like 60gb of free spac eon this partition.
