Is this a good deal?

#1 Post by shepseskaf » Thu Jun 08, 2006 2:17 pm

My trusty T21 finally crapped out yesterday. I believe that the hard drive went bad, but rather than replace it I'd prefer to buy a new machine.

On Techdepot.com, I came across this Z60m for $625 (after rebate):

• Celeron M 370, 1.5GHz, 2529FVU
• 256MB RAM, 40GB
• CD-RW, XP Home

Essentially, I want to use the new machine as a back-up for my R52. I'll be doing word processing, HTML work, and some Photoshop, as well as Web surfing. Nothing very strenous.

My question: is the Celeron up to the task? If I add 1GB RAM, will the machine be able to take care of all the required mundane tasks without stumbling?

Buying a new Thinkpad for that price looks too good to be true, and I'd like some feedback on whether this machine is worth it.

If you are going to update the bejeesus out of it when you get it, then it will be. That is not enugh RAM to power XP and ThinkVantage at the same time. Mine came w/ 512 and I'll be bumping that up to at least 1024 soon.
