Poll: Most common PC problem

#1 Post by gruimed » Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:39 pm

I tried to find this kind of information (PC problems statistics) on the net but apparently it is not available, or at least not in public domain, so I figured that my only chance to get any information on the subject is to create a poll...

So, what is the most common PC problem that average home user can not solve by himself and has to turn for support ?

You may also comment on the poll itself (i.e. poll options) or just post any thoughts on the subject.

Note from Moderator: I added an item to your poll...

My guess is the installation of new hardware causes the most problems, although virus's are right up there.

So many times the user will plug in the hardware before being instructed by the installation program or instructions. When this happens, it's often hard to fix.

Since somebody (administrator, I hope) added the option "users" to my poll, I will try to clarify this.

Users are the cause of probably 90% of the problems (and if you add an engineers that designed buggy software and faulty hardware you get 100%). So with this option added we will end up with an extremely interesting poll that says that people are behind 100% of computer problems. That's not an information I'm looking for. That's not an information.

So since I probably can't remove this option from the poll, please try to avoid it. When you think of a case when the user missed up his ADSL configuration - tha'ts a "misconfiguration" case, not "user". When the user spills coffee on his power supply - that's "hardware" case, not "user". I hope you get the idea.
