Can I turn off the primary harddrive in my T4x?

#1 Post by NecessaryEvil » Sat Aug 07, 2004 8:38 am

I have a 10gb hdd that was pulled from a customer's Dell Inspiron 4100(Upgraded him to a 40gb; took the hdd as labor).

I put it in a Vantec external USB enclosure. I want to use the drive during class, where we'll be installing & using Linux and Windows Server 2003.

I'd prefer not to have to pull the 60gb I have in my T41, but rather turn it off/disable it if possible.

In the end, I want zero chance of messing something up on the 60gb while messing around on the 10.

Is there a setting in the BIOS that allows me to disable it? I've not seen anything that jumps out at me...

I will yield if anyone here actualy knows of something, but there isn't an off switch in the bios. If this were a desktop pc you could turn off the IDE chains, but this is a laptop and you don't have that control. Your option is pretty much to yank it if you want to be 100% safe that nothing can happen.
