Has this Ever Happened to Anyone?
Ever since I got my TP last December, it reports 319mhz when the power manager is set to "maximum battery life". If I check the processor with mobile monitor, it says 800mhz.
Has this ever occured with someone elses TP?
Please let me know.
I should be receiving a box on monday to send it in.

Errrr...No.
What reports 319MHz with the system on the "Maximum Battery Life" profile? I remember that, last time, you said it was the system tab in the control panel. I would trust Mobile Meter more since it actually does a careful measurement of the clockspeed rather than the hardware specs under the system tab; I have seen some funky data on various systems under that tab before, but never was it a reliable indicator of a hardware malfunction.
But I would get very suspicious if Mobile Meter or the like was reporting 319MHz on that profile.

The "phenomenon" you experienced is perfectly normal. It is due to the SpeedStep function for Intel mobile processors.
Regardless of your actual rated processor speed, the processor will gradually step down to a lower speed in accordance to your system's workload. This in turn conserves battery life.
When you set the Power Management Profile to "Maximum Battery life" you are effectively forcing the processor to step down to the lowest possible setting.
Note that different models of processors will have different lowest operating speeds.

Yeah, but I am sure that 319MHz is an error in the reporting in the System tab since Mobile Meter reported correctly, as expected for the chipset in the T42, 600MHz. That is the lowest that chipset can be clocked, to my knowledge, without the core getting unstable. For the T43, the lowest clock setting is 800Mhz.NovaxX wrote:The "phenomenon" you experienced is perfectly normal. It is due to the SpeedStep function for Intel mobile processors.

Ermmm, that's weired then, I've got 335MHz reported in the system tab when I set to Maximum Battery Life, without underclocking or whatsoever...christopher_wolf wrote: Yeah, but I am sure that 319MHz is an error in the reporting in the System tab since Mobile Meter reported correctly, as expected for the chipset in the T42, 600MHz.
