Hiding Inactive Network Interfaces
Hiding Inactive Network Interfaces
Hi,
I have 3 network icons in the task bar which I'd love to remove. Each corresponds to say the EV-DO connection, the wireless, LAN or Bluetooth.
anyone know how do i get rid of them from the taskbar?
thank you.

Start> Connect to> Click on "Show all connections"> right click one each of the connections in turn and select "Properties". Deselect the checkbox to "Show icon in toolbar".

I agree, those are pesky little icons. You tell them to stay hidden, but sometimes they still pop up.
Maybe this thread started by mavis will help you.

Got it! Right click on the Toolbar> Properties> Click on "Customize" in the Notification area> Select the icon in question and select "Always hide" in the drop down menu.

Like thibouille27, I just disable the unused connection (In Network Connections, right-click on the adapter and select "disable"). It's a hassle to keep disabling/enabling them when I move around, but it's still better then looking at the red 'x' in the traybar.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Same thing for me... I have it set to auto hide those network connections when not connected but once I switch networks, they come right back.wareynolds wrote:This does not work. Each time I switch a newtwork they come back.
So if I customize and hide they are gone until I switch networks (say go from wired to wireless) then the non-connected wireless shows back up.

hiding icons was my solution for the same problem, but even after i would select "always hide," i would reboot and find that it magically changed itself to "always show." doesnt do it anymore, but was really frustrating...as far as taskbar icons go.
