Brand and model of DVD Burner for ultra baie slim ?

#1 Post by Pascal_TTH » Sun Jun 11, 2006 5:09 pm

Hello,

I would like to upgrade the combo DVD/CD-RW of my T41p to a DVD burner. I look on IBM's FRU website but it costs about 300€ ! So I plan to buy an OEM ultra slim DVD burner and fix the bezel of the CD burner.

If you got a super multi DVD burner or a DVD buner, can you tell me the brand and model number ? ie for my combo : Toshiba SD-R9012. I prefer DVD burner that support DVD-R and DVD+R.

Thank you.

There is only one manufacturer of 9.5mm thick (ultra slim) DVD burners, M a t s u s h i t a. You may be able to get an OEM version for fewer Euros than an IBM supplied one, but you won't find a low cost option if that is what you are looking for.

Many here have opted to use the common 12mm thick (slim) DVD burners in an external USB connected case. Since there are several manufacturers of 12mm thick burners (sold under numerous brand names) there is a lot more competition and so a wider range of features and price points to choose from.

Personally, I'm using a Sony DW-Q58A burner (probably a discontinued model by now) in an external case and have been very happy with the results.

Cheers,

Bill

Thank you Bill !

When I was searching, I found website witch sold DVD burner where it was specified 9 mm but when I check on the manufacturer website, it was always 12 mm. A friend of mine also tells me that he did not found any 9 mm DVD burnder. So, I won't spend 300 € in a IBM ultra slim DVD burner, I will go for an USB one.
