Offline files and synchronization

#1 Post by mikek » Mon Jun 12, 2006 3:49 pm

Here's one that seems to have stumped the IT professionals at my company.

They have given me lovely T42. Had it for 18 months and I love it. Servers at work are either W2k or W2003.. not sure which...

I have about 1G of files of various of these servers synched onto the T42. When on line in the office, ie on the office LAN, about every ten minutes the T42 thinks the network is no longer available and sets the status of the files to off-line. But network is still there and will resynch immediately. And as I've about three separate servers synched this way, it's never all three that go off line at once...

This happens in a varietly of locations around the company (40 miles apart!) and I've tried lots and lots of different LAN cables.

But, when working off site, mainly at home with VPN connexion, the T42 never thinks the servers go off line (unless they genuinely do). And my connexion away from office can be either ethernet or wifi - which probably proves it's not a hardware fault with the T42.

So... probably not really a T42 question... but as the techys at work want an easy life they're trying to blame my laptop. No point asking my co-workers... most of them wouldn't know what an off line file is, never mind how to enable it etc.

Any advice or thoughts most welcome.

Very sad that no one out there with a thinkpad has any advice on this. Now have a new twist in that for a year or more I've never suffered the laptop thinking servers are off line when connected remotely via VPN, this has now changed and I can't maintain a connexion this way today... the laptop keep thinking the file server is off line - even though I'm still solidly connected via VPN to corporate network. Connexion is allowing online use of Outlook and IE through VPN - so that's solid enough....

Thanks
