I have a T41. Last night I ran Software Updater to update all my IBM software. One of the things that updated was the Client Security solution. I had been logging in before, no problem.
Now I can't boot up. I get the screen that says "checking the status of the embedded security chip" and a popup behind it that says "There was a problem connecting to a critical service. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connnection. Please refer to the readme for more details."
If I click "OK" on this box I get another Client Security popup that says "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log on." Doing that results in absolutely nothing.
I turned off the security chip in the BIOS and that did nothing. I can also reach the pre-desktop area - but I can't do anything else, much less get to my Norton firewall or antivirus to adjust any settings - if I knew what those were.
Help! Any suggestions welcome - I really don't want to have to return the machine to its initial configuration and reload everything in the world.
"Problem connecting to a critical service"?
Might I suggest you join this thread. They are actively discussing problems with the latest version (7) of Client Security Solution.
