The LCD of my T43 SXGA darker than T42 XGA, why?

#1 Post by nshaw » Tue Jun 13, 2006 1:31 pm

Hi guys,

I'm the new comer here, need help of my T43 SXGA LCD.

I just bought 2668-76U T43 with SXGA on eBay, and have a T42 with XGA from work. T42 is brand new but T43 was one yr old. I compared those 2 displays side by side, XGA is bright, clear and sharp, the color is cool and beautiful. But the SXGA is so fuzzy, darker than XGA, unclear and will feel so tired if watch it longer than few mins.

I'm very confused about that, anyone has the same experience to compare these displays? Should I bring the SXGA back to IBM? Btw, my T43 has onsite warranty, will IBM come to my house to replace the LCD because it's fuzzy?

I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

There are about 3 LCD manufacturers that make LCDs for the T4x line.
Hitachi, Samsung and LG. (Correct me if I am wrong here).

Therefore the two laptops might have different brightness specifications since they might very well be made by two different companies.

The other explanation is that the backlight on your t43 (from ebay) is starting to go??

An LCD will seem fuzzy when not viewed at its native resolution. Set the SXGA+ to 1400x1050 and it should clear up. As for brightness, make sure they are both plugged in, you have to specially set the settings to let the LCD be at full brightness when on battery. You can search around to find out how to do that.
