Memory socket problem?

#1 Post by Roy Slade » Sat Aug 07, 2004 9:52 pm

My I-series (1161-43U) has a strange, intermittent memory problem. The system was originally diagnosed with a bad sim, but it does the same thing with a new sim. Occasionally, it will lock up and refuse to reboot. It usually says that there's a problem with one of the system files and hangs. On rare occasions, the screen has blank lines before the boot fails. If I turn it off, open the extended memory compartment, and reseat the sim, it will boot just fine. Is it possible that the socket has corroded? If so, what would I use to clean it? Normally, I'd use Radio Shack Color TV Tuner Cleaner (I know, but this stuff has worked well on other connectors in the past), but I thought I'd ask the experts.

You can try tuner cleaner, but a better choice is the fiberglas bristle contact cleaner. Also, check to make sure all of the contacts are in good condition; you may have a bent one.

Hope this helps.
