Boot X31 from USB drive
Boot X31 from USB drive
Hi,
I have just bought a ThinkPad X31 2672-PHJ. I updated its BIOS and Embeded controller program to the latest version (3.02 and 1.08). Now it can boot from USB drive (according to what I see in BIOS). However, when I plug a 1GB Transcend JetFlash USB drive with Debian boot image on it into X31, it refuse to boot with "Boot failed" message! Is there anyone has the same problem with me?
According to latest BIOS release note, it said that the problem with booting from USB is fixed!
My X31's factory OS is Windows XP SP1, is there any way to upgrade it to Windows XP SP2?
Thanks in advance

Just download and install WinXP service pack 2 , simple as that.
About the boot from USB, do you have the right settings in Bios have you checked that?. It should work with the right settings.
I havent tried an USB flash key, but I have booted and installed from an USB CD drive and thay worked fine on my X31.

Thanks for your reply,
I'm sorry that my question isn't clear. What I mean is I want to upgrade the factory's hidden partition (I don't know what other people call it exactly) to Windows XP SP2 as well, then each time I "recover to factory settings", I don't need to reinstall SP2 again. Is there any way to do that?Just download and install WinXP service pack 2 , simple as that.
Yes, I checked those settings many times, I use F12 to select boot device all the time I tried to boot from USB.About the boot from USB, do you have the right settings in Bios have you checked that?.

I've booted my X31 succesfully with a USB stick containing a Fedora install image. Have you tried booting the same boot image in another machine just to test that the image is ok? (I'm sorry if this sounds obvious, it was just something I did not think of right away when first trying to boot this machine with the USB stick - I had a broken image and did not check.)
