a few millimeters (2-3) are normal. if its more than that, make sure your keyboard was put in the right way. there are two small tappets (right below the both alt keys) that are supposed to be snapped UNDER the palmrest. if they arent, that is probably the cause. other than that, you could check the screws on the bottom casing. two of them hold the keyboard. but they are fairly in the middle of it so i do not suppose that's the cause.

tappet = haltenase, unten bei alt und alt-gr, die müssen unter der handballenauflage sein, nicht darüber. mit ein wenig gefühl kriegt man die zum einschnappen, ohne gleich das ganze teil ausbauen zu müssen.

it isn't perfect at the right side, in the tappets!
How to flip it down?/ How to become it correct?

gently apply more pressure than when pressing a key. a lot of times that snaps the tappets in place. if that doesn't work, download the hardware maintenance manual from the ibm website and reinstall the keyboard as is explained there. hope that helped.

The trick I've heard, for snapping a keyboard into place, is to remove the optical drive.

Stick a finger into the optical hole, and the PC card slot, and push with your thumbs on the 2 shift keys. (Well, squeeze, really.)

Since you are squeezing against your thumbs, you won't hurt anything by squeezing too hard. If you just push down, you could possibly bend something.

Once you get a feel for how the boards snap in, you can just push down on the shift keys.
