Fair Trade Indication in User Profile?

#1 Post by lowie » Fri Jun 16, 2006 6:15 am

I really appreciate the thread about user feedback. But it is a bit messy and not very structured. Doesn't PHPbb support a feature to enable forum members to give "points" to eachother? In that way, it would be possible to add a "fair trade points" index to each forum member that sells/buys thinkpad stuff.

This phpBB modification should do the trick.

Just a thougt...

Even though I think it would be nice to have a feature like that, it isn't really the point of the forum. The forum is meant to be a network of information, that just happens to allow for buying and selling as a bonus.

I guess I worry about it getting out of control, since it would be an anonymous scoring system. If one user doesn't like another, they could easily sabatoge the other.

I'm certain that if there was a transaction that one of the people involved felt wasn't "fair" we would all hear about it rather quickly.

I agree with tfflivemb2, this forum is very useful, sometimes more is not better. Let's not make it like all the other thousands of crap forums out there.

I also agree. We have to draw the line and just share information and get along with everyone. What's the use the of the Forum if we can't enjoy the use of it. I know, I enjoy it.

Allright, it was just an idea. And a bad one I suppose. This forum wasn't set up for such a purpose, I understand now.

Guess you guys are right about the reliability of people on this forum. And about the thread on "positive feedback for fair traders" that does its job well.

Don't be so hard on yourself...it wasn't a bad idea. It is just that there are other factors that you might not have been aware of.

Please keep coming forward with suggestions.....this is how we grow as a community.

Looking at the result so far, we can see that only 43% of all votes were cast against a system for awarding points.

There are too many way to dupe eBay, which is a system dedicated to sales. Why bring that risk to Bill and thinkpads.com.

One could sign up, sell a few low cost items, gain good feedback, then dish a dozen high end ThinkPads that don't exist. By the time no one receives them, the "member" is gone - with the cash.

Sound familiar? Try eBay.

Sales and purchasing seems to be working well the way it is and thinkpads.com isn't shouldering any responsiblity.
