Yet again - freeing my T43 at the start-up

#1 Post by alexzabr » Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:57 pm

Well, can't complain on my T43 - so far all is fine (knocking in wood), well...almost all..
What still left to bother me is the fact that it takes long time till the machine begins to respond to AC/wireless (or Fn+F5 to switch the antena ON/Off). In general it boots fine, quick, all regular applications wake up as they should (can be engaged soon after start-up) but it is the only AC (or wireless in general) connection that hungs up at the start-up and it takes 5-7 minutes until it gets released and I can switch wireless state (On or Off) or launch AC.
Trying Fn+F5 immediately after boot-up (or trying to launch AC) will do nothing for about 3-4 minutes, then the message box comes up saying somethign like the application (or service) is busy and if I want to switch the applicaiton - to click on "Switch to.." button...
I still wait and then, after another 2-3 minutes it releases and Ac or Fn+F5 begins to respond.

This behavior doesn't depend on initial antena state (whether it is On or Off) - occurs in both cases. I guess it has somethign to do with wireless trying to establish a connection automatically upon system bootup making several attempts with a delay between these. So far unable to get this proven (don't know how).
What I want to ask is whether there is a way to set the AC (or/and any other applicaiton that is able to initialize wireless communication on its own after bootup) not to try to establish the connection automatically upon bootup ?

Thanks, Alex

See my post at the end of this thread.

I have found the following to help on some occasions. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, then scroll down to the Wireless Zero Configuration service. Double-click on it, set to Automatic and Started.

On mine, I also have the following set: go to Start > Connect To > Show all connections, right-click on the wireless adapter, choose Properties > Wireless Networks tab, and verify that box is unchecked: Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.

Thanks, just checked that out.
Windows Zero Configuration has already been set to Automatic and Started, Wireless Network tab has also unchecked "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

Following you last posting in the thread you directed:
I have AC version 3.71, have yet upgraded to the newer 4.12 and will probably not willing to upgrade hearing so much issues with one on the forums here. Configure > Global settings doesn't have the entries you mentioned (there are some others such as Allow wireless authentication using WIndows log on user name and apssword..." which is unchecked of course (and I leave it this way).

What now ? Is there any way to determine what hold the connections for about 6-8 minutes after a bootup ?
