T43p gaming experiences
I am currently deciding whether to install WoW or WCIII on my T43p laptop. I am currently running the 2668-G1U model of the T performance series.
I was just curious as to how everyone fares in their gaming experience.
On a side note, there was a notice that said " Not enough CPU Speed" as this is being a 2.13 ghz processor...I was unsure about that notice.

Did you have set the speed of the cpu as adaptive or do you have it running at full throttle 2.13GHZ?ex-SOLDIER wrote:I am currently deciding whether to install WoW or WCIII on my T43p laptop. I am currently running the 2668-G1U model of the T performance series.

Adaptive simply means the CPU will clock itself to whatever speed it deems proper based on the policies in place for power conservation and performance. If you have it set to maximum performance, then that isn't an adaptive setting (although the CPU will wiggle and jiggle the clock speed a few MHz around no matter what setting you have) and you have essentially pinned the clock to the highest it will go.ex-SOLDIER wrote:adaptive? I'm not sure what you mean? In terms of power setting I set to max performance...

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I don't have any personal experience to help you with. But I would make note of the following. The Intel Pentium M is more powerful than the desktop Pentium 4 at the same clock speed. The "Not enough CPU speed" may refer to a Pentium 4. The software may not be looking for a Pentium M.ex-SOLDIER wrote:On a side note, there was a notice that said " Not enough CPU Speed" as this is being a 2.13 ghz processor...I was unsure about that notice.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_mWikipedia wrote:the Pentium M runs at a lower clock speed than the contemporary Pentium 4 desktop processor series, but with similar performance (e.g. a 1.6 GHz Pentium M can typically attain the performance of a 2.4 GHz Northwood Pentium 4 (400 MT/s FSB) with no Hyper-Threading Technology)

Don't try to over-analyze the software checks anyway; I can tell you, right now, that most of those checks are pretty flakey to begin with and can start throwing some strange excpetions/errors. I ran a bunch of stuff that wasn't really supposed to be able to run on old systems on even *older* systems. Plus, there is way more to performance than just the clock speed.

With a bit of tweaking of the game settings, I've found that I can play Oblivion at 1024x768 on my T43p. Playable in this sense means that most of the time I have 15-25 FPS. The computer appears to be particularly bogged down when doing shading or scenes with a very high polygon count.
It probably helps to have 2 GB RAM in this situation because that can assist in alleviating the problems related to slow harddisk drive and less video memory that most of the graphics intensive games like.
Oblivion *is* a pretty intensive game to run so it should be as good a measure as any when determining the gaming capabilities of a T43p.
