Help Reassembling a T22

#1 Post by rattlehead » Sat Jun 17, 2006 3:50 pm

I am reassembling my T22 and I have a small metal bracket that I can't for the life of me figure out where it goes. it's about 1 inch by 1 inch and it has no screw holes in it. it's not the bracket for thefan assembly and it's not from the modem card. Anyone help here?? I have a picture of it but I can't figure out how to post it here.[/img]

I've taken my T21/T23 apart plenty and i'm not sure what you're talking about (well, actually I have an idea that its a piece of metal that goes behind the video cable to the lcd)

to post an image type Image

to host the image, get somewhere like http://supload.com/ , it'll give you the address you need to fill in

Upload the pic to somewhere like photobucket.com, then paste the link here (not the image, per forum rules).

The other option is to reverse the process from the CPU backwards through the HMM, and see where the piece falls in.

How about page 110 of the HMM? The bracket in step 5? The one that goes on top (?) of the video ribbon cable like Bgradid said?

any chance it came from the LCD? I tore it apart too, but I didn't see it in that part of the manual either.

Clean the fan and the CPU core and put a THIN layer of thermal grease on it. Less is more here.

I am back up and running now. Thanks for all the help. I still am not sure where that braket came from. I went through the service manual 4 or 5 times trying to find that bracket. I am wondering if it may have came fromthe 600 E I tore apart the ther day for my daughter. I am just glad to be backon my speedy T22 instaed of that 600X

Yeah, that part is what I thought it was, it goes behind where the LCD cable connects to the motherboard. It's hardly required though, and I don't think it provides any real function except maybe to shield it from interference.

I think after a while of taking my thinkpad apart I just forgot to put it back, and haven't really noticed any structural or lcd difference to speak of.

Yeah. I was the one who figured it out. According to the service manual, that metal piece is a static discharge shield. I guess it keeps static electricity off the LCD from getting to the motherboard.

I will post this image to make it easier for rattlehead to see where it goes:
