BIOS 3.20 affecting fan switch-on/off??

#1 Post by hamoudi » Sat Jun 17, 2006 4:14 pm

hi guys,
being new to the TP , id like to ask if the new BIOS version really affects when the fan goes on/off??
ive read some threads talking about this problem and that some would like to downgrade their BIOS to solve this problem. ive got no idea about it coz i got my T42 10 days ago and it already has the BIOS 3.20 on it.
my T42´s fan goes on when reaching 46 degree and it stays on EVEN when reaching back 38 degree  , so basically my fan rarely turns off again .......i kinda thought of downgrading my BIOS although i dnt know what the other versions would do concerning this problem.

any one can help and tell me if its normal that my fan isnt turning off? or maybe guide me to some solutions/tricks??

PS: i already have the NHC ,reduced volatage+ dynamic switch!!

Have you tried the Thinkpad Fan Control Utility? (The link to it is in my sig)

I don't know about what exactly the BIOS revision should do when it comes to the fan on that T42; it depends on how it throttles between high performance, battery life, and being able to balance all the parameters.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

thanks chris!

i have the fan utility but im not using it coz its showing conflicts with the NHC.....even when i tell the NHC not to read temp!!
i tried them both 2gether but i got some errors with the fan utility thats when i chose not to run it! besides i think the NHC is doin its job perfectly. I actually got 15 degrees difference since i started using it! its really awesome, the temp isnt goin above 46 which is perfect but the bloody fan doenst trun off once it gets started no matter how cold my CPU can gets!

if my fan wasnt that noisy it would´ve been ok but when its on its like a transformer with a large amount of electricity in it! air noise is perfect but the fan itself makes this weird noise...needs oiling or what??
