I have a 6 years old T21-2647, which I bought with Win 98
and later upgraded to XP. My original HD died and I want to buy a new one,
but I hear that XP registers the HD number in Microsoft's servers,
in order to prevent more than one installations per copy of XP.
So, if I get a new HD, would I be able to install my XP and connect
to the internet without being annoyed by Microsoft,
or should I do something in order to achieve that?

Gbeeri - this happened to me. HD failed about three weeks after new clean install of Xp on to my T21. Got a fresh HD from e-bay, formatted it, reinstalled clean Xp off same CD, and Xp reactivated fine. Absolutely no problem. This seems to be in line with the advice in GJ's thread.
Best of luck.
