T42 - AGP 8x vs T42P AGP 4x???

#1 Post by sktn77a » Sun Aug 08, 2004 6:06 pm

Last question before I get one of these babies tonight (I've narrowed it down to the 2373-3xu vs the 2373-7xu). I see that all the information on this site says that the T42P ATI Fire video chipset is an AGP 4x whereas the T42 ATI Radeon 9600 is an 8x AGP.

Anyone know if this results in any significant performance penalty for the T42p?

Well in the TABOOK there is no AGP 8x listed for nay of the T42 or T42p.
I think it's a misprint on the website.

Well, looks like the specs page for the T42 was in error. The tabook says they're both AGP4x.

I think I'm going to get the T42 (2373-3xu) - I just don't want to take a chance with the 1600x1200 resolution on a 15" screen.

Too bad, I love the 16x12 screen (zero dead pixels), and it would have been nice to meet someone else with a 7xu on the board :) The 3xu is a fine machine though, I'm sure you'll be more than happy with it!

This was discussed a number of times earlier in the year when the TABOOK and T42's were announced. The ATI MR9600/FireGL T2 parts are indeed 8X AGP, but the 855PM mobile chipset only supports 4X AGP.

So to net it out: ALL MR9600 and FireGL T42/T42p models are 8X AGP. BUT... ALL these same models use the 855PM mobile chipset which is limited to 4X AGP.

Thanks Daniel: I kinda wondered if it might be something like this driving to work today. I ordered the T42 with the 64Mb 9600.

:D
