1802 NO LONGER A PROBLEM, BIG UPS FOR CHRISTOPHER_WOLF!
I did the search for this and it still is not making much sense to me. I need very descriptive instructions on what to do. I popped in the atheros 5004 card and i got the 1802 and 01c9 error messages. I need to know where to start and EXACTLY what to do, please dont leave any steps out. This is all very foreign to me and I bought this card with the pretense that this hack would be pretty easy. So if anyone has a good list or instructions please fill me in as I need very much help. If this is a tough problem to write instructions for I will give someone my phone # and maybe we could make a phone call to situate this. Thank you very much ahead of time.

thats a really great link. Well i chose to save the file and than i tried to open it later in my documents but i dont have software to open iso files. I really need that list of instructions broken down for me alot farther. I am not very confident in my abilities to do what it says. Like open the image? Boot from disc? Shut down after pressing Ctrl/Alt/Delete. I probably know what this all means but im kind of freaking out and probably not thinking straight. Is there anybody out there that can walk me through this over the phone? If you can please IM me your phone number or something. I really want this wifi to go asap cuz im tired of dragging around a 50' patch cord off my router!!!!!!!

After downlwa, start with the first step:
Burn the image and then boot from it.ThinkWiki wrote:1. Burn the .ISO file to a CD/DVD. Make sure to open the image instead of burning it as a regular file on the disc.

There is another way to turn the 1802 message off without having to create a linux live boot disk. Do a google search for no-1802 and you should find a very small (~20 bytes) dos .exe file that you can load on a bootable floppy or usb flash drive. Just boot up, run the exe and the 1802 message should disappear.
BTW you can view a .iso file using winrar.

I appreciate the tip, but probably the only way im going to figure this out is if i can talk to somebody who can walk me through it over the phone. Please help if you can, like i said i will pay you some money for your help. Oh and its saying the 01c9 error as well so I guess the only way to fix it is through thinkwiki

If I had the spare time, I would help you over the phone, as I did with dsigma6.
The first thing to know, on your part, is that you aren't "reading" ISO files.
What CD burning program do you have?
Do you have a floppy drive?

um i just got a free trial of winimage to read the iso file. I do have a floppy drive, but not sure if i have a blank disc. I could probably do this with some very specific instructions. Im using winimage and i just cant get the file on disc? If i could get that file to disc i could prolly get the rest of the patch figured out.

OK. I just quickly installed version 8.0 of winimage.
If you have the image ready to go on your computer, open winimage and choose "Disk", and then go down the list to "Create CD-ROM ISO Image". A new window will open. You will then need to choose your CD burner drive from the drop down menu, and then click on "browse" to find the ISO file that you already have on your system. This should then create the CD that you need to boot your system and apply the patch.
If this doesn't work, then we can try another method using NTFS4DOS.

OK, wait.....nevermind. I see now that this program "CREATES" ISO files. This is NOT what you want to do.
What other program do you have on your system to be able to burn a CD? Forget about the ISO thing right now. If you have music or files on your system, how would you burn them to a CD? (ie. Nero, NTI CD-Maker, Roxio, etc.)

Unzip the downloaded ibm_wifi.zip. You will get the ibm_wifi.iso. Point Alcohol to this ibm_wifi.iso. You don't have to extract anything out of the ibm_wifi.iso.

please, a lot of people are trying to help. it is just often times not easy to diagnose with such little information.
here is my guess: the .iso didn't get burned right. which cd burning program did you use?
in nero, you do the following: when you start nero, DO NOT tell it to burn a data disc. press cancel in the opening dialogue, so that all you get is the menu and a grey background. you then go to file/open. pick the .iso file. a dialogue will pop up, you are ready to burn. do so.
you put the cd into the thinkpad, and at bootup you press F12 (as is prompted on the "ibm" screen). there should be only one cdrom to pick. pick it. THEN, follow step 2 and on from my thinkwiki instructions.
