Transcend 1G ram $69 AR on newegg or Crucial for $150
This is just great...I spent the last 3 hours restoring the laptop to factory status and after install some window updates, do a reboot...upon reboot, got error 2100: HD 0 initialization failed
The HD does not even spin or anything...took the HD out, put in again to try and the samething....
So i took the HD out and connect it to my desktop which has SATA and my desktop does not even see it...
Through out the whole time, the HD does not spin...It's DEAD....
So I spent the last several days blaming on the RAM...and it's turn out I got a bad HD...that's why I got so many BSOD since i got the machine..
I'll call IBM tomorrow to ask they send me the new SATA. Do you guys think i should send in the whole machine so they can check on other things?
Maybe I'll get a new HD from newegg and use the factory HD as a second HD.

create a recovery CD set by the usual means..
if you have a DVD burner just put a DVD in when it asks for the first recovery CD (after the rescue and recovery CD)..
this did not all work right on my X60 using an external, plextor 716 writer..
it works 100% building a recovery CD set on the T60p..
re. memory..
transcend was used by ibm for years (along with more than a few other brands) in new thinkpads..
in my T60p i installed an additional 1gig part and the T60p crashed with a BSOD.. more than a few times..
this was good memory..
hard to say why, but it seems the T60p is very critical of memory parts.. YMMV..!
i have been usiong some low cost memory in the T60p without a problem since i returned the higher cost memory..
i will order a few of these transcend pard from newegg for myself and to see if they work or not..
re. the bad HDD..
lenovo should just send you one..
probably not much point in sendiong the entire thinkpad in if its only the HDD..
i hope you have a good recovery CD set..

Bill,
Just called IBM and they will send out a replacement HD with a set of recovery discs. I should have it Mon or Tues.
As always, IBM is the best when you run into problems....that's why we all pay premium for it.
I ordered a 100G 7200 SATA from newegg already so i will use it as a main HD and the IBM drive as backup.

As it turned out, the problem i have with BSOD is not memory-ralated but rather I had a faulty HD. I order a hitachi 7K100 from newegg and put it in. Have beeing running that with my transcend ram since and never has a problem.
So the extra Crucial ram I ordered will be going back to newegg. The new replacement HD never arrived from IBM. I called and they said they don't have that HD in stock
The recovery set arrive after 2,3 days....luckily I got the new HD from newegg quickly to put my T60 back to work.
I would guess this would be very annoying for someone without a temp HD to work with.

Compared to other ThinkPad models with a memory access door on the bottom, it *is* that hard.RonS wrote:I think that's exaggerating a bit... I can put a memory module in a T60 in about 2 minutes. It's not that hard.
I would feel comfortable telling just about anybody to install memory in a ThinkPad with the access door. One screw to remove, and nothing tricky to it.
The T60 is a whole different story. Yes, an expert like you can do it in a few minutes. But most of my friends who aren't computer geeks? I would not have them tackle it at all.
Figured I'd chime in... Received my T60 last week - just threw my 1 gig of transcend in it yesterday... First time laptop for me but I've thrown together a few computers in the past. I'm a mechanical guy at heart ;D
Took just a few minutes really - palm rest isn't that hard to get back into the correct position at all. No loose parts or anything - it is all tightly back to where it should be.
Transcend booted up fine with the stock samsung memory and it is moving along pretty nicely now. No issues at all.
Have not had a single problem with this 2623D6U since I received it to be honest.
