Hence why they are so cheap. Faster = more expensive. :-)

They spin slower, but perform very well due to the 8MB cache.

I put one in an X22 (removed the 4200rpm, 2MB cache, 20gb drive) and the difference was noticiable.

Yes, this drive will run just fine in an X20 (you should upgrade your BIOS first to the latest version to just ensure that the full 80gb can been seen by your laptop).

There would be an additional $4 shipping charge to England. Drive would be shipped via USPS Air Post (4-10 days average delivery time).

Got it. If it is a secret, I cannot expect anything.

I am wondering if you can order bulk parts, such as a big pile that can fill a container. I have a big customer that needs to purchase a lot.

You say that the drive caddy is included... but for what models? I have an IBM 390e that needs a hard drive and caddy. I'd be interested if you have that caddy and include it with the drive.

Thanks,
Ben

Almost all IBM caddies work with all models (it's the drive COVERS that are different). I know these caddies work all the way back to the 600 series. Can't say beyond that.

Well darnit. I've heard that the caddy for the 390 series computers are only interchangable with the i1700 series thinkpads. I could be wrong, but I need to know if it will work in my computer. Maybe you know where to find the research and I dont.

I have an idea... can you tell me the dimensions of the caddy?

My guess is that the 390e stock caddys support the larger 12mm drives, and yours only supports up to 9.5mm

The good news is that if thats the case, it wont be a problem because your drive obviously fits in the caddy. My only concern is if it will plug into my systemboard.

You are including the plug too, right?

Thanks again for your time,
Ben

I'm certain there is no "plug" included. I guess you are refering to the connector to attach the HD to the board. Newer Thinkpads don't need this adapter. But you can find it easily on ebay for little $$$ if you search for "dell hard drive connector" or "8267R" or a combination of it. However, I'm not convinced that the provided caddy will hold the HD secure in place.

I guess i'm not all that concerned with how securely the hard drive is in the computer. If that plug will make it connect with the system board, maybe it will be worth a shot. I have other parts that I might be able to use to make the caddy work if it doesnt, or if something needs machined down, I can do that. The laptop is something I found in my friend's closet and got for free. So far, I've been able to repair the lcd without actually buying anything and I got it to post in bios by putting ram in it.

How the heck can you cut me this deal though? 60 shipped for an 80 gig hard drive seems unbelieveable. Any feedback I can see?

OK, I'm confused here. Are we talking about an IBM caddy, or a Dell IDE adapter plug?

The caddy is the same dimension as the drive, and has an "open" top. So it SHOULD fit a 120mm drive as well as the 95mm drive it comes with (I say should b/c I have never tried it).

And I do have one of the Dell IDE "plugs". I assume you are talking about one like this:

PLUS - I'm LOADED with feedback :D

Plus, you should check out the feedback sticky at the top of the FS Forum. I'm in there a few times

Why? it's 4200rpm.

I've lost count of how many drives I have purchased from brent, all 7200rpms, except for my t60 that was 5400 because he is waiting to get those :) soon i hope.

Brent is definately an honest seller, and gets stuff to you fast, plus I know where he lives

Alright I'll let you know what I'm going to do soon. I have to figure out college expenses and buy some stuff for school which is starting next week. If you'll do 60 for the hard drive with the Dell adapter/IDE plug thing shipped we might have ourselves a deal. I'll e-mail or PM you. Thanks for the help
