red banding on lcd, only at 16 bit resolution

i noticed if i have a white window near the top half of my screen, i can see little red blocks, the same color that you would see in a messed up lcd- one with a thick red line across the entire screen.

it has little squares of red, but i noticed that when i set it to 32 bit it goes away...does that mean this thing is going to soon act that way no matter what resolution? or is this not enough info to diagnose that?

r40. i never noticed it when i first got the machine, but i reinstalled windows and noticed it since. all my drivers are updated, bios too. maybe that warranty i just bought will be good for something (fingers crossed)
