do u recommend oiling short fan?

#1 Post by hamoudi » Mon Jun 19, 2006 5:03 pm

hi guys,

ive been thinkin of changing my short fan with an M10 long fan but then i realised that my GPU isnt getting over 47 degree which i think is optimal. so a long fan would be maybe excessive.

the problem is that i dnt know if this buzzy noise that my fan makes is normal or nt! the fan is always rotating with arround 3000 RPM coz my CPU isnt heating over 46 degree. though the noise isnt that BAD it still annoys me.
i opened my TP and rolled the fan while its still on the CPU ( TP was off!) and i heard this kracking sound before the fan stops which made me think maybe it needs some oil!

anyone with some great ideas to help?
thanks

The fan should not be oiled. If it is defective, then replace it.

As JD said, you aren't supposed to, nor should you, oil the fan. If it is making an undue amount of noise, then replace it. :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

If the fan is defective, then replace it. If all it needs is a drop of oil, then give it a drop and see if that solves the problem. There is nothing wrong with a drop of oil in the right place.

If you have never done this before and you are not sure how you should do it, then follow the advice of the others and replace the fan.

I remember a thread where somebody did oil the fan and it solved the problem, use the search option and see if you can find it. :)

Remember that once you remove the fan you should apply termal compound to the cpu.

Good luck!
