Intel 3945 poor signal with airport express

#1 Post by movado » Mon Jun 19, 2006 8:10 pm

I have a T43p with intel 2200BG card. I now have a T60 with the 3945 card and the signal strrenght originating from airport express is down 50%.

What is wrong with the 3945 cards???

Is there anything wrong with it? Signal strength is a relative and arbitrary parameter that has no industry standard or guideance. Is you usable range reduced? Does it seem to be running at lower connect speeds than your 2200BG?

It works - but the range and usability is reduced proportionately.

What is it with these 3945 cards. Why have I read that others have changed to the Aethros (sp) cards and they work much better.

I have read and searched this web site and have not seen a full and true discussion on these cards.

I have searched other forums and found that there is a general view that the connectivity "sucks". That there is also problem with connecting to linksys WRt54GS routers.

What is your experience with the wireless connectivity using the intel 3945 card.

Just don't read this thread share your experience.

I use T60. In the library the signal strength usually drops to below 10% but I am still able to connect at full speed and never experienced any intermittence of connection. Compare with my previous Netgear PCMCIA card: its signal shows 60%~80% but it would drop connections every other 5 minutes and was only able to connect at 2Mbps.

So I guess it is just a different measure of strength. As long as you get steady and fast connection do not worry about the signal readings.

Try changing your Power settings for the network card in the Device Manager. I believe that it is under the Advanced tab.
