A21P memory update

#1 Post by cklein » Mon Aug 09, 2004 4:18 am

I love my A21P, but really can not live with 512MB RAM.

Is there anyway to install like 1GB or 2 GB RAM on this baby? So I don't have to buy another T42P.

Just curious, but why is 512MB not enough? My A21p has 512MB. Although it's a bit slow by modern standards, it still does all the office-related stuff (surf, e-mail, WP, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.) I need it to do.

Also (from your For Sale post) how much performance improvement did you see in going from a 5400 to 7200 rpm HD?

I am a developer, I love my A21P so much, that I don't have a desktop. :-) Actually I bought a desktop from DELL a few days ago, but I returned it, as I can not get used to a desktop any more. :-)

I need to run VS.NET, SQL server, IIS all together, need to debug.

If I open several I.E, outlook, then start programming, the memory can easily go to 700MB RAM, so 1GB is necessary. As the CPU is already slow, memory is the only way to compensate that.

To be honest, I don't know how much performance gain for upgrading the HD, but when never I need to upgrade my computer, that's the time I feel I need a new computer. The new HD made this baby to last for another year. Now, I need upgrading again. :-) I bought that HD for $350 as I bought right after I heard the news that it's out. :-)

Now it's another big decision to make, I believe 1GB ram can make it last another year.
