Mozilla FireFox and BartPE on Thinkpad T40

I am trying to create a bootable USB flash drive with BartPE with the Firefox plugin using the files in the i386 folder from the harddrive of my Thinkpad T40. Unfortunately, FireFox does not seem to work in the BartPE environment. The process starts but the Firefox window does not open. I have the network driver already installed in the BartPE installation. Has anyone with a T40 managed to get Firefox started in BartPE. (I would like to confirm if it is the files in the i386 folder that is the problem or the way BartPE is installed).

Incidently, is the version of Windows XP installed on the Thinkpads tied to the Thinkpad hardware? I read that the version of Windows XP installed on Dell laptops is tied to the Dell hardware.

Yes, the version of Windows XP is; mainly additions for stuff like the HDAPS and such....but these are just additional drivers and software. I can't see how that would clog up BartPE; throw a few errors, maybe, but not really choke. You are better off making a clean install of Windows XP to put on the BartPE stick.
